Movies: Twilight

I've been looking for a copy of the movie Twilight on the internet weeks from now. And I really want to see it ASAP!:D From the trailer, It's very cool to watch. I mean, the story is good and the casts were great! I wanna watch this! Grrr.. Anyway, here's the synopsis:

TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern-day love story between a teenage girl and a vampire. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother re-marries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn't expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she's ever met. Edward is a vampire, but he doesn't have fangs and his family is unique in that they choose not to drink human blood. Intelligent and witty, Edward sees straight into Bella's soul. Soon, they are swept up in a passionate, thrilling and unorthodox romance. To Edward, Bella is what he has waited 90 years for – a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. But what will Edward & Bella do when a clan of new vampires – James (Cam Gigandet), Laurent (Edi Gathegi) and Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre) – come to town and threaten to disrupt their way of life?

Benefits of Reading as a Teen

Reading as a teen leads to success. When teens read more than just their classroom assignments, research clearly shows that they generally do well in school. First of all, the extra reading expands their vocabularies. It also shows them how different writers put down their thoughts leading to better writing skills. And teens who read more serious literary works gain skills in handling complex ideas. The more teens read, the more information they pick up. This leads to a solid core of knowledge that is useful in a wide variety of classes. For example, the teen who reads biographies has a better understanding of prominent people studied in history classes.

Another big dividend of reading as a teen is a good score on the verbal section of a college admissions test. No other activity builds the vocabulary and comprehension skills needed to do well on these tests as well as reading.

Besides helping teens do well in school, reading also helps them expand their horizons as they learn more about people and the world. Plus, reading can show teens that everyone has problems in his or her life and may even help teens see solutions to their own problems. Finally, reading is enjoyable. It can bring a great deal of pleasure to teens.

Parents can encourage their children to stay involved with reading by expressing interest in what they are reading and tying it to other activities. If a teen is fascinated by racing stories, try to take the child to a race. If a teen likes a book that has been turned into a movie, make sure he or she sees the movie.

TOP Ten Most Popular Dog Breeds

Knowing all of the minute details of each type of dog breed recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) may not be number one on your great list of to-do’s. In fact, only a small percentage of experts in the country can spout off the intricacies of each breed. After all, the AKC recognizes over 150 breeds of dogs, each boasting unique and exceptional qualities. Of them all, an average person might recognize ten percent, a dog-lover could identify as many as a quarter. But the simple fact is that not many Americans are presented with too wide a variety of dog breeds in their lifetimes. While dogs are growing in popularity as an American pet, the variety of dog breeds which we welcome as popular has not changed much in the past ten years.

The AKC separates recognized dog breeds into seven categories, or groupings: Sporting, Herding, Working, Terrier, Toy, and Non-sporting. Of these, the most popular dog breeds in America consistently hail from the Sporting group. These include the setters, spaniels, pointers, and retrievers. Specifically, the Labrador and Golden Retrievers were the most popular registered dogs in the majority of states in 2005. Their combination of agility, intelligence, and unusually friendly demeanor help them maintain their status.

Dog breeds from the Toy group are also starting to dominate American homes. In fact, eight of the most popular registered dog breeds in the United States in 2005 came from this group, including the Yorkshire terrier, poodle, Shih Tzu, and Chihuahua. The small size and playful nature of these dogs make them ideal for living in a big city. Specifically, poodles are now the most popular dog breed registered in New York City.

The Working group also contains some popular dogs among Americans. This list includes dog breeds like the Boxer, Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher, and Siberian Husky. These dogs tend to be more popular outside of cities, as their nature requires a great deal of training and they are not as naturally friendly or easy to control as some of the other dog groups.

One of the most popular dog breeds in the country is the German Shepherd Dog, a member of the Herding Group. These dogs are large and powerful but also extremely loyal and protective.

The two groupings with the least number of dog breeds on the published list are the Terrier group and the Hound Group. This is not too surprising, as most of these breeds serve specific purposes that are not playful ones. However, the Minuature Schnauzer, a member of the Terrier group, is growing in popularity in different regions around the country. And both the loud beagle and the slow dachshund, of the Hound group, remain in the top ten registered dog breeds in America. Below is the 2005 list of the ten most popular registered dog breeds released by the AKC. For the complete listing, see www.akc.org.

1. Retriever (Labrador)

2. Retriever (Golden)

3. Yorkshire Terrier

4. German Shepherd Dog

5. Beagle

6. Dachshund

7. Boxer

8. Poodle

9. Shih Tzu

10. Miniature Schnauzer

I want to have a Golden Retriever!:D Someday soon, I will. And I will name her Natasha.Ü

Heart Health Benefits of Dark Chocolates

Chocolate is made from plants, which means it contains many of the health benefits of dark vegetables. These benefits are from flavonoids, which act as antioxidants. Antioxidants protect the body from aging caused by free radicals, which can cause damage that leads to heart disease. Dark chocolate contains a large number of antioxidants (nearly 8 times the number found in strawberries). Flavonoids also help relax blood pressure through the production of nitric oxide, and balance certain hormones in the body.

Dark chocolate is good for your heart. A small bar of it everyday can help keep your heart and cardiovascular system running well. Two heart health benefits of dark chocolate are:

  • Lower Blood Pressure: Studies have shown that consuming a small bar of dark chocolate everyday can reduce blood pressure in individuals with high blood pressure.
  • Lower Cholesterol: Dark chocolate has also been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) by up to 10 percent.

Healthy Hair Diet

Here are some Healthy- Hair Diet for you :)

* Eat more salmon. Omega-3 rich foods like salmon and sardines help seal in shine. Distilled fish oils or DHA supplements will work, too.

* Be a bran lover. Bran is rich in vitamin B, which may slow hair loss and promote hair growth. Other B-rich victuals include beans, peas, carrots, cauliflower, soybeans, nuts, and eggs.

* Say yes to avocados. Avocados and avocado oil may prevent some funky stuff that kills hair follicles — dihydrotestosterone (DHT) — from getting where it needs to go.

* Say no to animal fat — and red meat — if you’re losing hair. They can lead to more DHT production and hair-follicle damage.

* Stock up on green tea. Brew a strong pot, cool it, then give your head a rinse to help kill off dandruff-causing fungus. Incidentally, if you drink green tea, the caffeine in it may help slow balding, too.

word learned for the day...

After having lunch at Xavier University Grade School's canteen, my mom and I went to Sun's wireless center at Big R (Robinsons) building near Limketkai Mall and paid the bills. My mom asked for the entire bill of one of her employees and the teller asked us to wait because it might take time to get it. So, we sat down the chair and read some interesting magazines. My mom was so busy reading the stories about Gabby Concepcion (her crush) in the Yes! Magazine while I was given a magazine of infants and pregnant women. (Talk about interesting, huh! A teenager like me? Hehe!:D ) I did got bored a little but, I also learned many things about those things. Well, anyway, there we are waiting and reading.. Until such time, before she had finished the 7 pages stories of her crush, she crossed into a word called Albeit. She asked me to remember the word and scan the dictionary when we go back to the office. So, I first opened my blog and post some ideas while on my other tab, I searched for the meaning of Albeit. Thanks to Wiktionary, an online dictionary, I knew the meaning of that word. So here it is:

ALBEIT - (plural albethey)
  1. Despite its being; although.
He has a very good idea, albeit a strange one.
So, that's it! That's the word I have learned today! I hope you have, too. ;D

horror movies

After watching hundreds of horror movies in my whole life, I came to think about how did the writers come up with those incredible stories. I mean, from vampires, monsters, to zombies, to unknown creature, and blood viruses etc.! The writers must be really good at it. Can you imagine, a person could turn into one of the man-eating-zombie kind with just an airborne virus or whatsoever. Whew! I really hope it would not happen in the real life!
I lovehorror movies! And it's really beginning to become more popular nowadays especially those with the "end-of-the-world" themes like zombies and monsters. Every year, movies like those are excelling and getting pretty good and scary. The most horror movie I've seen and still, not finished seeing the whole movie, is the Japanese horror movie The Grudge "Ju-On". I'm only up to the scene where the child was first seen. Very scary!!! I can't wait to watch another horror movie soon!:D I'm still downloading Saw V and The Nightmare on Elm Street and I hope those two movies will be very satisfying! :D

White Island (Camiguin, Philippines)

Whohoo! My dream place for a vacation! I wanted to go there because I love beaches, and I love the sea! I love the white sands of this Island. Last year, my friends and I planned to go there but, things just got busy for us. How I wish I have the money right now to go there and have myself relaxed.. I've never been to White Island before that's why I'm really "ggrrr" in going there. Imagine the wind and the water.. Haayyy! I could already imagine myself being there right now. Being away from the city for some time is quite relaxing. And I really want to go to Camiguin and go to White Island!!! Hehe! :D

What is in Koreans' hairs? Almost all of them got shiny, black and long hair. I wonder what they are using and how they are maintaining such shiny and beautiful hairs.

Plus, their girls are also thin. I really admire them. Especially Jun Ji Hyun. Ever since My Sassy Girl (Original Version - Korean) came out..

whala's recipe: sopas

Last night, since I was the one who cooked dinner, I made something yummy(of course! love your own! hehe!:D) -- SOPAS. It's a kind of soup (I think!) with elbow macaronis, ground pork and small cuts of carrots. So, i wanted to share my "followers" the recipe of my sopas.

It's up to you to see how much each ingredient will you use, because I'm not into details that much!:D So redundant with the "much" word! Hehe!:D This sopas is good for 5-6 persons only depending on the person who will eat too much or who will eat less.Ü

The ingredients are:
○ elbow macaronis (approx. 1/4 of a 1kg pack)
○ ground pork (approx. 1/4 of a kilo also)
○ 1 medium carrot (cut into tiny pieces)
○ 3 garlic pieces(?)
○ 1 meduim sized onion (cut into pieces)
○ 1 tsp. pepper
○ 1/2 tbsp. salt
○ 2 pork broth cubes
○ 500mL of water

Procedure:
1. Saute the garlic and onion
2. Mix ground pork with sauted garlic and onion
3. Add 500mL water when ground pork is slightly cooked and bring to a boil
4. Add the salt and the broth cubes then stir
5. Add the macaronis with ocassional stirring
5. When the macaronis are almost soft, add the carrots and then stir.
6. When the carrots and macaronis are cooked, add pepper. Then taste
7. Bring to a boil and serve.

I am really not a cook but my critic(mother) says that I'm really good at it, sometimes! hehe!:D enjoy!
